Tile Coasters
This is a super fun way to add a little zing to an otherwise boring household item. They make perfect housewarming gifts, but you can really give them for any occasion! The best part about this project is that it is so inexpensive to do!
What you need:
- 6 Tiles (I got the cheapest ones from Home Depot. I think they were 16 cents!)
- Felt
- Paper—Anything from scrapbook paper to wrapping paper, but the thicker the better!
- Mod Podge
- Sponge Brush
- X-Acto (utility) knife
- Water Sealant (optional)
Directions:
- Place the tile face down. With the X-Acto knife, cut around the outside. After you are done, it should be the perfect size to fit on top of the tile. If not, use scissors to correct it. Now, if you want a border, you can cut the square smaller—it is up to you. I like to make some with borders and some without.
- On the top of the tile, put a layer of Mod Podge and put the paper on top. Let that dry for about ten minutes or so; if you get impatient you could end up with bubbles underneath your paper, so make sure you wait before going to the next step.
- Next, put a layer of Mod Podge over the paper. You will need to repeat this step seven times. Remember to let the glue dry before putting a new layer on.
- You can also use a water-repellent spray so that you don’t have to put as many layers of Mod Podge. If you do that, you only need to put a couple layers of the Mod Podge and then spray the water repellent.
- After the top is dry, it is time to put the felt on the bottom. Put the tile on top of the felt and, with the X-Acto knife, cut around the tile. I got felt that already had adhesive on the bottom, but if yours does not, you can use tacky glue or a glue gun to put the felt on the bottom of the tile.

Love this idea! I printed photos from a recent family vacation and made two sets of six coasters each to give as Christmas gifts. The instructions were easy to follow and the gifts were well received. I used cork (purchased in a roll from Michael's) for the bottom side. Thanks Brittany & the Virtue team.

Did you print on glossy printer paper, or card stock?
