When Adam saw Eve for the first time, he said, “At last! She is bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh!”

Today, our culture is profoundly “me centered”; marriage is more about personal fulfillment than it is about deep oneness with one’s spouse. When we insist on our rights and our own personal happiness as the number-one priority, we hurt ourselves and our ability to stay in relationship and grow as God intends.

Rather than trying to make your spouse into the person you want, focus instead on being the person God wants you to be, loving that person, and placing their needs before your own. Ultimately, when we love and serve each other sacrificially, we are loving ourselves….In reality, Adam’s exclamation when he saw Eve the first time was as if he said, “I love you! Bone of my bone…I AM you!”
