And He Shall Be Called…Mighty God
Throughout Scripture we continuously see the supremacy of the Lord as a reigning theme. Isaiah prophesies that He will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. We as Christians accept these descriptions of our Lord on a surface level, but oftentimes we neglect how they affect us personally.
I remember, when I was a little girl, my dad would tuck me in at night and always pray for me. It was something I anticipated every night. I also recall the thoughts and anxieties that filled my mind as the light went out and the door was closing. They were typical for a little girl: monsters, ghosts, and robbers. Mostly the latter.
I would lie there and imagine the strongest person in the world attempting to intrude into our home while we were sleeping. As those thoughts would enter my mind, I quickly reminded myself of my mighty dad in the next room over. He was the strongest, bravest, and most powerful man I knew and at the thought of him, my anxieties were eased.
In a more heightened way, when I think of the Lord as my Mighty God, all fear is quenched, anxieties cease, and worry withers. The word mighty is defined as “possessing, being characterized by, or showing extreme power and strength.” Those words encompass the very being of our Lord.
He is my Mighty God.
I love how the psalmist Ethan expressed his adoration for the Mighty God in Psalm 89:8. He said, “O Lord God of hosts, who is mighty like You, O Lord? Your faithfulness surrounds you. You rule the raging sea; when its waves rise, You will still them.”
Join me today in allowing our worries, fears, insecurities, pains, and anxieties to be stilled by our Mighty God.
