For a simple centerpiece for a party, or even giving a loved one flowers, what better way to display them than in a mason jar? For me, the best thing about receiving delivered flowers is that they are already sitting in a pretty vase with water. Sometimes when we go to visit a friend in the hospital or a grandparent at home, the flowers end up not making it into a vase. So why not create a special vase and deliver the flowers in it? I picked up these mason jars at a local craft store, but you can do this project using old jars from your kitchen.

What you’ll need:

  • Large mason jars (pictured are Ball wide mouth 4-pint jars)
  • Assorted colors of acrylic paint (to complement your table theme)
  • Foam brushes
  • Sand paper

Directions:

  1. Using the foam brush, apply the outside of the jars with your desired color. Completely cover the jar and let it dry.
  2. Repeat with a second coat and let it dry.
  3. After about 4 hours, use the sand paper to sand off areas that would have the most wear and tear, to give it a worn look.
  4. Just add fresh flowers for a really simple centerpiece or a neat gift to give to somebody special.
