What Is On Your Heart?
“Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23 NIV)
It’s a long drive on the Hana Highway from Lahaina to the southeast side of the island of Maui. But for those who have ever seen the Seven Sacred Pools, a series of lovely waterfalls that spill into tranquil pools, it’s one that is worth it.
High above the ocean, starting two miles inland, are the rivulets that feed these pools and waterfalls that drop some 400 feet down a sheer lava rock wall.
Though the air around you is warm and heavy, these pools remain refreshingly cool. The pools overflow into waterfalls that overflow into more pools and keep moving down until they reach the ocean below.
That, girlfriend, is the picture of a heart that is filled with the love, joy, and peace whose source is God alone. The Bible tells us that we are to guard our hearts for out of them are the wellsprings of life.
You know that what is in our hearts will flow out and touch all we touch. So what is the source that feeds the springs, that feed the pools, which spill onto those you live with? This is the determining factor as to whether what flows out of your mouth and your actions are sacred or profane.
When our hearts are carefully watched over, our words and lives become that wellspring of refreshment and beauty. May you be drenched by the only Source that can satisfy the deepest thirst of your soul.
Drink deeply of His supply as you fill up with His Word daily.
Should those seven waterfalls run dry and slow to a trickle of muddy water, it is only because the rain failed to fall from the misty clouds.
But never fear, dear one. Our Source, our Spring, never fails because within Himself is the infinite supply. In His Word, we discover His promises and provision. He can turn a rock into a pool and hard rock into springs of water!
“Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
who turned the rock into a pool,
the hard rock into springs of water.” (Psalm 114:7-8 NIV)
“But whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:14 NIV)
