Turkey Chili
Turkey Chili
When the weather starts to cool off, I love finding great comfort food recipes to make for my family. This chili is perfect on a cold evening. My family is really picky when it comes to chili though. They don’t like big chunks of onions or tomatoes. So I came up with a great way of still adding those flavors, but without the chunkiness. You can also adjust the spiciness by adding or taking away the cayenne pepper. As it is in this recipe, my kids really like it. And of course, the goal is a meal everyone loves!
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound ground turkey (kosher turkey is my favorite!)
- 1 onion
- 2 cups chicken broth
- 1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
- 2 (15.5 to 16 ounce) cans of chili beans. I always use the “O” Organics chili beans (beans only!) from Vons. I love them and they are so inexpensive.
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika (Trader Joe’s has a wonderful smoked paprika in their seasonings section.)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or more if needed)
Directions:
- In a food processor, add your skinned onion. Puree the onion to the texture of baby food.
- In a large pot, heat up olive oil on medium heat. Add turkey and begin to brown it. After about 3 minutes, add the pureed onion and continue to cook the turkey until it is completely browned. Don’t clean out the processor; you will use it again in a moment. Add the garlic at this point, combining with the turkey and onion.
- Pour chicken broth into pot. Turn heat down to low. Now drain your tomatoes and add them to the food processor. Pulse until desired consistency. For us, it’s a puree again. Once you are done, add them to the pot.
- Drain your chili beans a bit, and add both cans to the pot.
- Next add chili powder, paprika, oregano, cayenne pepper, cumin, and salt. Bring chili to a boil; then turn down the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
Serve with corn bread, if you like, and top with crushed tortilla chips, shredded cheese, sour cream, and green onions. Delicious!

I fixed some chile and beans together. On the side I had green vegetables. It was cabbage and it was very good. So I had chile beans and had my greens also. It was very good.
