To Serve and Be Served
My name is Teri and I serve as Cathe Laurie’s Sherpa. My official title is not actually Sherpa, but it is the title Cathe bestowed upon me because my service not only includes security for Cathe, but sometimes I also carry her things, retrieve items she inadvertently leaves behind, and assist in getting her from point A to point B. I once told her that as long as she didn’t expect me to to guide her up Mt. Everest like a real Sherpa, I was both honored and privileged to be called her Sherpa. You, see the Lord has called me to serve Him in a way that assists Cathe in her service for the Lord. I am about the Lord’s business so that Cathe may be about the Lord’s business. In 1 Peter 4:10-11, we are taught:
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Every believer in Christ has both natural abilities and spiritual gifts that are to be used to serve others and glorify Jesus. During my “Sherpa” duties, I have observed Cathe live these verses by ministering her many natural abilities and spiritual gifts to others so that God may be glorified. I have witnessed her teach God’s Word to the women of the church in messages that resonate with women from all walks of life. I have witnessed her speak God’s Word while she is being filmed and interviewed. I have witnessed her stop and pray with both friends and strangers who are in need of prayer. I have witnessed her Godly reaction to both good news and bad news. I have witnessed her loving interaction with her children and grandchildren. I have witnessed her pray for her husband, Greg, whom God has used to lead so many people to Christ with the truth of the Gospel. In all my observations, I see very clearly that Cathe provides a living role model of a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, pastor’s wife, teacher, friend and most importantly, follower and child of Jesus Christ.

I really enjoyed reading this! There is nothing so beautiful as the body of Christ—He meets our needs while we meet the needs of others.
