The Canvas Chalk Wall
As the old saying goes, “Give credit where credit is due!” In most walks of life, they call it plagiarism if you take someone else’s work/ideas and call them your own. It’s some serious stuff. So with that being said, on this next project I am just the messenger.
This great idea was given to me by . . . drum roll please . . . Peinture at SOCO in Costa Mesa, California. They feature the Annie Sloan chalk paint line. You can’t go wrong with any of her paints. They turn the novice painting job into a delightful experience. The ladies in there are also quite helpful with questions and ideas.
Supply List:
- Painter’s drop cloth (found mine at Ace Hardware)
- Paint brush
- Chalk wall paint
- Chalk or chalk pens
- 1 long thin piece of wood for top support
- Nails
- Hammer
- Saw-tooth hangers
Directions:
First off, decide what size of hanging you are aiming for. Cut the cloth accordingly to fit your wall space.
Next up, paint one side of your drop cloth with your chalk paint (I recommend doing 2–3 coats of paint) and let dry.
Grab your long piece of wood. You want to wrap the top of the chalk cloth around the piece of wood and gently nail the cloth into the wood. If you have a nail gun, it works great for this. Your board will act as support to hold up your chalk cloth. Without it, the cloth will sag and hang unevenly
Attach your frame hangers along the back of your board. The smaller it is, the fewer hangers you need for support; the larger, the more you’ll need.
Position your nails on the wall to meet the frame hangers, then hang your chalk wall!
Lastly, create your message with either chalk or chalk pens. Have Fun
