It has been a hot, somewhat hard summer, as we’ve been missing our Christopher . . .

Last week, we returned from a vacation trip with the kids and grandkids. It was such a joy for me to cook with Brittany. She is a fantastic sous chef! We cooked and ate so much!

How is it she and I, who tried to work out every day, gained a couple pounds and Greg lost weight? It isn’t fair!

One favorite thing we made was barbecued jerk chicken with pineapple salsa, black beans, and rice. We will have to share the recipe with you!

But the best part was having daily devotions in the Gospel of John and listening to both kids share insights from the Word.

Stella learned to swim and Lucy learned to blow kisses! Ah, September came fast. But I’m ready to say goodbye to summer heat and unscheduled days . . .

September is an opportunity to fall back into healthy habits. Bible study starts in a couple weeks, and I am going back into my routine of early morning coffee devotions, a jog or bike ride before the day gets away from me, lunch with Greg, and afternoons to study and work.

Early to bed, early to rise, and a pattern of discipline takes shape: day follows night, and night follows day. Or, as Stella puts it, when the sun is in China, the moon is in the night sky, and when the moon is in the sky, the sun is in China!

Before turning in and lights out, I read from the Daily Light on the Daily Path devotional given to me by Anne Graham Lotz. Here’s one piece that really spoke to me . . .

“Mary . . . sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word . . . In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and confidence shall be your strength. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. Rest in the Lord . . . ”
