Paper Pom-Poms
Here is a festive table decoration that can be used for a variety of holiday get-togethers or even a birthday party. It just screams summer to me.
Materials:
- 8.5″ x 11″ Vellum paper
- Bamboo skewers
- Hot glue gun
Making the Pom-Poms:
- Cut a 3″ x 5″ piece of vellum and fold it in half twice lengthwise. Cut slits every 1/8″, leaving an inch at the top uncut. Unfold the paper, and attach a bead of hot glue to one uncut corner. Adhere to a bamboo skewer, and wrap the paper around several times. You may want to add one or two more beads of glue to the edge of the paper for a more secure fit (it’s not necessary, but it ensures it will not unravel from the bottom).
- When you reach the other end, use another small bead of hot glue to secure. Lower the strips with either the edge of a scissor blade or your finger, as you would ribbon.
- Once opened, they resemble pom-poms or firecrackers! I like to stick mine in a vase filled with sand and bunch them all together. You could also stick them in a cake for a fun twist on candles!
