Painted Mat
I’m really picky when it comes to my porch rugs. I never like any of the sayings or designs they have on them, but I also don’t like plain rugs either. One day my husband showed me a picture of new trend: stenciling dining room rugs! I thought this would be the perfect solution to the outdoor rug as well. It’s time to spruce up the traditional “welcome mats” with some character and style all your own!
You will need:
- A basic, plain, outdoor rug (I got mine at Ikea for under $10.)
- Stencils, either purchased or made out of card stock
- Paint
- Brushes
Directions:
- It’s really simple! Decide what design you would like on your rug. Purchase or create a stencil. I got a great pack at Michaels.
- Lay your stencil on your rug and paint with a brush. You might have to do 2–3 coats, depending on the paint. I used thick paint (we had painted our walls with it) and only had to do one coat.
- Let your rug dry. The thickness of your rug and the number of coats of paint you used will determine how long it needs to dry. Mine took three days to dry.
It’ a great housewarming or Mother’s Day gift idea!
