Painted Dishes
I saw plates and bowls for kids with really cute designs on them in a magazine recently. I thought it would be fun to figure out a way to make some for my kids. They love anything with their names and interests on them—so I gave it a go! I bought small plates at Target for $2 and used the Martha Stewart glass paint from Michael’s. It was so fun, and needless to say, I let my imagination run wild!
Supplies:
- Small ceramic dish
- Glass or ceramic paint
- Fine-tipped black ceramic marker (be sure to buy food-safe ink)
- Small paint brushes
- Rubbing alcohol
Directions:
- To start, wipe the dish with rubbing alcohol (per the instructions on the paint bottle) and let dry.
- When the dish is dry, trace your design lightly in pencil onto the dish. When you are satisfied, paint in any places that you’d like to add a pop of color. For instance, I painted the cheeks and bow tie. It may take a few coats. This paint is a bit different than a regular acrylic paint. You’ll have to wait until it is completely dry; then paint a second coat—otherwise it will pull right off the dish.
- When you are satisfied with your design, outline the rest of the part you penciled in with the black ceramic marker. Let dry and bake dish per instructions on the paint bottle.
Now you have a perfectly personalized dish for your little one—or you!
