Lavender Eye Mask
These are so relaxing and useful after a long, hard day at work! A homemade lavender pad makes a very thoughtful gift, too.
Materials Needed:
- Sewing machine or thread and needle
- Iron
- Silky or ultra-soft fabric—about 1/2 yard
- Scrap fabric for inside the lavender pouch
- Scissors
- Lavender seeds
Directions:
- Cut out a rectangle about 9″ by 5″ and two other rectangles, 6″ by 5″.
- Lay one of your smaller rectangles right side down. Fold one of the short sides so that a 1/4-inch strip of the right side is visible. Then fold this strip again another 1/4-inch. Iron and then sew this fold. Repeat this process for the other small rectangle.
- Lay your larger rectangle out right side up and lay your smaller fabrics right side down on top so that the two ends that have been sewn overlap. All other cut ends should be pinned to the larger fabric rectangle.
- Sew around the four edges of the rectangle, creating an envelope-like pocket.
- Clip the corners, being careful not to cut into the seams. Turn the fabric right side out.
- Create a bag for the lavender using two rectangular pieces of fabric 8″ by 4″, laying the fabric pieces on top of each other and sewing one short and two long edges.
- Fill the bag a little less than halfway with dried lavender seed.
- Close the open end of the bag with a top stitch.
- Now place your lavender-filled bag inside the envelope of silky fabric and you have a fabulous eye mask! When lavender becomes less potent you can simply repeat steps 6-8 to make a “refill” bag using fresh lavender.

What a great idea. Can you use anything else besides lavendar? Are there any other ideas? I like lavender, but sometimes the smell is overwhelming.

I've seen them filled with flax seeds. No fragrance, light weight enough.
