Honey-Roasted Apple Sauce
This is fun and easy, and kids love to help. I like to mash the apples by hand; it gives it a coarser texture, and I sprinkle some cinnamon on top.
Ingredients:
- 12 apples (McIntosh)
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon finely ground sea salt
- 1/2 cup honey
Directions:
- Heat oven 425 degrees F.
- Quarter and core the apples.
- Peel and cut into 1-inch slices.
- In a large oven-proof saute pan, melt butter over the stove. When it starts to brown, add apple slices.
- Add salt. Saute until it begins to color; then add the honey.
- Stir to mix well.
- Put in oven and bake until soft and caramelized—about 20–30 minutes.
- Remove from oven and mash, or use a food processor.
- Serve warm or cold.
