This holiday season, I made an easy wreath with just a few supplies found at the craft store at a really affordable price! I like to change my Christmas theme each year, and creating an inexpensive wreath is a great way to change it up.

Supplies:

  • Foam wreath  (You pick the size and shape. Some are flat, some more domed…it’s your preference.)
  • About a yard of material to cover your foam wreath (I chose burlap.)
  • About 10 felt squares, in your choice of colors
  • Small flat-head sewing pins (A 100-pack will leave you not lacking.)

Directions:

  1. Start by cutting your fabric of choice into strips about 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your foam wreath with ends just overlapping in the back.
  2. Now take the strips and wrap them around the wreath, just barely overlapping the preceding strip and meeting in the back to form a seam.
  3. Pin the strip in place on the back of the wreath so it doesn’t show when hung. This is creating a backdrop to pin your felt flower buds to. Do this until you have covered the wreath.
  4. Next, take your felt and trace out a circle. I used a canning jar lid and mine were almost 3 inches in diameter. The size of your circles will determine the size of the buds on your wreath. Now divide up your felt and cut it into many, many circles!
  5. Once all your circles are cut, you can begin pinning these on the fabric-wrapped wreath. In order to get the bud shape, you fold the felt circle in half, then in half again, so 1/4 of it is showing. Then take your flat-head pin and pin it to the front of your wreath near the tip of the bud so that all four sides are pinned down.
  6. Now add your flowers in any pattern you would like (if using multiple colors). You can put them closer together for a denser look or spread them out for a fuller blossom. Cover the wreath or leave some spots so the fabric shows through; it’s your choice, so get creative!
  7. Enjoy your new holiday wreath each day after you’ve hung it on your door!
