Holiday Wreath
This holiday season, I made an easy wreath with just a few supplies found at the craft store at a really affordable price! I like to change my Christmas theme each year, and creating an inexpensive wreath is a great way to change it up.
Supplies:
- Foam wreath (You pick the size and shape. Some are flat, some more domed…it’s your preference.)
- About a yard of material to cover your foam wreath (I chose burlap.)
- About 10 felt squares, in your choice of colors
- Small flat-head sewing pins (A 100-pack will leave you not lacking.)
Directions:
- Start by cutting your fabric of choice into strips about 2 inches wide and long enough to wrap around your foam wreath with ends just overlapping in the back.
- Now take the strips and wrap them around the wreath, just barely overlapping the preceding strip and meeting in the back to form a seam.
- Pin the strip in place on the back of the wreath so it doesn’t show when hung. This is creating a backdrop to pin your felt flower buds to. Do this until you have covered the wreath.
- Next, take your felt and trace out a circle. I used a canning jar lid and mine were almost 3 inches in diameter. The size of your circles will determine the size of the buds on your wreath. Now divide up your felt and cut it into many, many circles!
- Once all your circles are cut, you can begin pinning these on the fabric-wrapped wreath. In order to get the bud shape, you fold the felt circle in half, then in half again, so 1/4 of it is showing. Then take your flat-head pin and pin it to the front of your wreath near the tip of the bud so that all four sides are pinned down.
- Now add your flowers in any pattern you would like (if using multiple colors). You can put them closer together for a denser look or spread them out for a fuller blossom. Cover the wreath or leave some spots so the fabric shows through; it’s your choice, so get creative!
- Enjoy your new holiday wreath each day after you’ve hung it on your door!
