12768_a12768_c12768_dDirections:

  1. Draw your pattern on a piece of paper, like in the diagram shown. To begin, trace around the base of your pot to form the center circle. Working your way out from the center, make each circle about an inch larger in diameter than the previous one. You can use a drafter’s compass for this, or just use a dish, pie pan, or any round object that suits your size. (Six circles will make a small to medium-size hanger.)
  1. Create four evenly spaced openings in the circle by erasing part of your pencil line. Follow the diagram to see where to stagger the openings in each circle. This is what will create the basket weave effect on your finished plant hanger.
  1. Cut out your pattern: follow the pencil lines to make slits in each circle. Be careful not to cut through the erased sections.
  1. Place your pattern on the leather and secure it with tape. Use the X-Acto knife to trace through all the cut lines in your pattern. Remove the pattern and make sure all your cuts have gone completely through the leather.
  1. Cut four long, equal lengths of rope. Cut four slits, equally spaced, on the outer strip of the leather, just large enough to thread the rope through. Thread each rope through and tie a small knot at the end near the leather.
  1. Set the pot on the center of the leather; adjust the ropes to fit evenly and tie all four pieces together at the top.   That’s it! Since you make your own pattern, this fits all types of pots.
