Sue,
My name is Heather and I am a 30 year old mommy of 3, living here in rural Pennsyvlania. I have been so blessed by this message. Your testimony reminds me so much of my own it was almost like you were describing my very life. I, too, grew up in a Christian home , loving the Lord truly and genuinely, however as I grew there were times when I grieved His Spirit and was kept from having that deeper relationship that I could have had. By 20, I, too, was very much tired and weary and gave over all those things to the Lord that were taking His place in my life. I was baptized and I can't really explain it but it seems like from that point on...after I really determined in my heart that God was going to have His proper place in my life, that all of the sudden my world became black and white. His Word became crystal clear to me in a whole new way...it was as if my eyes were blinded and now they had been opened.....I knew in my heart that I had truly been reborn and made new.
I am so curious to know about the gift of tongues that you rec'd. I grew up in a church that believed in the cessation of that gift, however as I grew up I knew of a couple of people whom I greatly respected that had been given this gift....they, too, had been saved in the Jesus movement as you were. Do you think that the Lord gave many people from that generation this gift as His Spirit was pouring out during that time of revival? I do not believe in the cessation of the gifts b/c I don't see proof for that in Scripture, but I have such a curiousity about this gift, I suppose b/c of my more "conservative" upbringing. I would love, if you would be willing, for you to share more about this experience in your life.
Thank you so much for your commitment to sharing and exhorting from God's Word. I am so hungry for the wisdom of women that have walked this road that I am presently walking on and who are still fervently seeking after the Lord and growing in Him. Thank you for your faithfulness and for your Godly example to my generation.
Much Love in Him,
Heather

Thank you so much Heather for your comments. Isn't it wonderful to know that the Lord never lets go of us and the Holy Spirit is always wooing us back to Jesus.
The gift of tongues is a gift you can ask for . It is the only gift I can see that is for the personal edification of the believer and is valuable for praise, worship, and intercessory prayer when we just don't know how to pray. The gift of tongues is most valuable when we desire to pray according to God's will.
The apostle Paul says that speaking in tongues is most valuable for our private devotional life.
(1 Cor. 14:2,14)
A friend of mine who teaches on the gifts says: "God doesn't open our mouth or move our tongue, but we participate by an act of faith." We use our voice.
There is a book called "Touched By His Spirit" by Jim Hesterly and it is a simple book on the gifts of the Spirit. So Heather, as a Spirit filled believer, you come to your Heavenly Father and ask for this gift and trust He will give it. Step out in faith and speak, it won't make sense to you and Satan will try to tell you you are crazy, but I pray the Lord will confirm all this to you.
Praying for you, blessings, Sue
