Fresh Herb Stuffing
This is a great version of a classic recipe!
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf of either sourdough or rosemary bread (I combined half of each.)
- 1 large Red Delicious apple
- 1 can water chestnuts
- 1 bunch celery
- 1 pound ground sweet turkey sausage
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup chicken or turkey broth
- Approximately 4 tablespoons fresh minced herbs (combination of rosemary, sage, and thyme)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- The night before, cut bread into one-inch cubes. Place them in a bowl and allow them to dry out.
- Cut apple, celery, and water chestnuts into 1/2-inch pieces.
- Cook sausage.
- Melt butter over low heat and sauté celery for about 1 minute. Then place apples, water chestnuts and chicken stock into pan. Lightly simmer for about 3 minutes.
- Pour mixture slowly over bread. Gently mix. Add sausage. Toss in herbs and add salt and pepper to taste.
- Best when used to stuff into turkey, or you may heat in a buttered baking dish, uncovered, for approximately 30 minutes at 350 degrees F.

Shelley,
This looks great!
Also, I want to tell you that I made your pumpkin squares this year for Thanksgiving and they were a complete hit! Thanks so much for sharing such a special recipe from your own family!
Much Love,
