Fly Swatter
“As dead flies give perfume a bad smell, so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honor.” —Ecclesiastes 10:1
Believe it or not, that verse is in the Bible! How true it is. When I saw this fun yellow fly swatter at the dollar store, I knew that there had to be a way to decorate it and add that scripture to it. It makes a fun conversation starter and provides a good laugh.
What you’ll need:
- Fly swatter (Check your local dollar store.)
- Hot glue gun, with glue
- Oilcloth
- Buttons
- Trim
- Ribbon
- Paper with Ecclesiastes 10:1 printed on it
Directions:
- Choose your oilcloth. Cut a strip 14″ long and 4″ wide. Wrap the handle of your fly swatter with your oilcloth and make any necessary trimming to fit well. I like to glue my seam along the inside of the handle. Hot glue your oilcloth together. Trim any areas that need some cleaning up.
- Align your buttons down the front handle of the swatter and glue. Cut your ribbon to wrap around the top and bottom of your swatter, and glue it.
- Print and cut your verse, then tie on with ribbon or raffia.

Oilcloth can be found on Etsy (www.etsy.com). It comes in a variety of colors and patterns. Also, if you live locally (in Orange County) there is a fabric store that sells it called M&L Fabric. They have a lot to choose from as well. You can also find oilcloth at Hancock's Fabric Store.
