Fall Pumpkins
Who said pumpkins have to be spooky? This year we did some designs using paint and glitter! Check out these inspirations and create your own modern pumpkins to decorate the front stoop.
The Chevron Pumpkin
Supplies needed:
- Painter’s tape
- Spray paint
Step 1:
Wipe off the pumpkin and make sure it’s clean so the paint will stick.
Step 2:
Tape off your design. For the chevron design, we did alternating up and down diagonal strips of tape, but feel free to get creative with other shapes! Stickers in shapes of stars or leaves would be pretty.
Step 3:
Spray the pumpkin and let it dry before removing the tape!
Additional design option: Spray the pumpkin with a base color. Let it dry, and then tape off your design for the next color.
The Glittered Pumpkin
Supplies needed:
- Spray paint (optional for base color)
- Mod Podge
- Glitter
Step 1:
Paint a base color on your pumpkin if you choose to do so, using spray paint.
Step 2:
Make your glitter paste. To do this, pour a few tablespoons of Mod Podge in a plastic cup; then dump a few tablespoons of glitter into the glue and stir it up! You want your paste to be thick with glitter, not the runny glue consistency.
Step 3:
Paint on your design with the glitter paste! Shown here are some polka dot patterns and also an ombré (gradual shading from dark to light) of glitter starting from the base or top of the pumpkin. To get the glitter denser at the top, you just add a few more coats after letting the first dry!

Hi Griselda, We decorated pumpkins to celebrate fall not specifically for the holiday Halloween. I sprayed and glittered different varieties of squashes too! They are not meant to be spooky or scary but a fun decoration for the season.

Hi Griselda,
Pumpkins, gourds, squash etc... are a natural part of the celebration of the Harvest season. There is nothing biblical that would suggest we shouldn't adorn our porches and our homes with these items to bring in the season. The intent in doing so is not evil, but rather just an expression of appreciating the beauty that comes with the season. Celebrating Halloween is an entirely different matter, but rest assured; placing (innocent) pumpkins and various 'seasonal items' around your home; is most certainly not evil.

Love these creative ideas. Just recently I was looking through a magazine and came across several ideas whereby the pumpkins were painted various colors and stencils were used to create quite a work of art on each of them. Can't recall where I saw the magazine, but stencils and some spray paint made some beautiful works of art!

I thought your creativity was fabulous...I teach 4 & 5 year olds, coincidently my assistant was just asking when the children get to decorate their pumpkins, and if she needed to buy any materials...I told her I'd talk about it tomorrow...Bam!! Need I say more :)
Very excited to start and take your ideas, I happen to have alll I need, from spray paint to glitter etc...
Thanks Ladies
