Fabric Necklace
This is a fun project to utilize your left over strips of fabric to make a pearl necklace that you won’t mind the little ones playing dress up with.
What you’ll need:
- 3 Coordinating fabrics each 6″ by 18″
- 1 Spool of coordinating thread
- 12 Styrofoam balls measuring at 1 1/2 inches
- Spool of coordinating ribbon
- Sewing pins
- Ironing board
What to do:
- Cut out one strip from each of your coordinating fabrics, 6 inches wide and 18 inches long. You should have three strips total.
- Take up the first and second strip. Place them right sides together. Sew them together on one short side.
- Take up the third strip and attach it (right sides together) to the second strip. Sew them together on the short side.
- Now you have one long strand of three coordinating fabrics.
- Take one of the short sides and fold it a 1/2 inch towards the wrong side of the fabric. Pin and press.
- Fold again. Sew a 1/2 inch stitch to close up the end. This will prevent any fraying.
- Repeat steps 5 & 6 for the other short side.
- Take the long piece of connecting fabric and fold it on to itself, lengthwise and right sides together. Stitch a 1/2″ seam along the long edges, making sure not to close off the short edge.
- Turn the long tube inside out.
- Find the center of the tube and tie a knot.
- Push one of the Styrofoam balls down the tube towards the knot.
- Tie a knot on the other side of the ball.
- Repeat steps 11 & 12 for both sides of the tube until there is about an inch left on either side.
- Take up the ribbon and cut two 18″ pieces.
- Place one piece of the ribbon into the opening of one of the short ends.
- Stitch a 1/2″ seam along the side to finish.
- Repeat step 16 for the other side.
- Tie and wear.
You can adjust the length by adding more strips of fabric to your original connected strip. It takes about 4 Styrofoam balls per strip of fabric.
