Fabric Mobile
My little sister recently got married and we were really on a budget for décor. So, we dipped into the world of DIY. We decided on fabric mobiles! Since it was an outdoor wedding and the venue offered some really great trees, we decided to utilize them in decorating. With that being said, these fabric mobiles are definitely not limited to weddings. A friend of mine is using one in her daughter’s room. A bridal shower, baby shower, or birthday party…the possibilities and variations are endless!
What You’ll Need:
- Several strips of fabric varying in width, texture, and preferred color. I even used an old dress because it was the perfect color peach! Pillowcases, old clothing, or even burlap or lace work too!
- Scissors
- 1 round “Single Plant Support.” I got this in the garden section at Home Depot for $3.99. The diameter in the photos is 14 inches, but you can select the size of your preference.
Instructions:
- After you have selected the perfect fabrics, it’s cutting time! Determine the length of material you would like to use for your strips. (I used strips about a foot long and about 2 inches or so in width.) Begin cutting a large amount of strips.
- Once you have the amount of fabric strips you think might fill the full circumference of the plant support, begin tying the fabric to the ring. There are several ways to tie the fabric. This part is entirely up to you. Be sure you are mixing up your fabric colors and textures so that you have a good variety. For example: lace, cotton, tulle, lace, cotton, tulle or grey, mustard yellow, aqua, grey, mustard yellow, aqua.
- Once you have a ring full of fabric strips, you have a mobile that can be used over a crib in a nursery, or over the birthday cake at a party, or even (like us) in a tree at a wedding!
