I’m always looking for cute, colorful, and inexpensive ways to decorate for parties. When I came across the idea to use cupcake liners as streamers, I knew I had to do it for the shower I was about to throw! You can purchase cupcake liners in so many different designs and colors. For my streamers, I purchased a box kit, with a combination of different designs. Buying them in a kit tends to be less expensive than buying them individually. But sometimes a kit might not have the colors you are looking for. So take your time looking. Check craft stores and even your local grocery store for sales on out-of-season designs. A friend of mine just recently purchased liners at a craft store for an upcoming event for only $0.60 per package. A great deal for an adorable decoration!

Supplies you will need:

  • Cupcake baking liners in different colors and designs
  • A needle and thread

Directions:

  1. Thread your needle. Make sure you make your knot on the end really thick so it won’t pull through.
  2. Push your needle through the first liner. Make sure the bottom of the liner is facing the knot, and the open end of the liner is facing towards your needle. Now add the second liner—whichever color or design you choose—making sure the open end of the liner is facing the first liner. Pull it down the string until they meet. Both open sides of the liner should be facing each other, so they look like small paper lanterns.
  3. Add the next liner, pushing the needle through the bottom of the liner, repeating step 2. Keep repeating the steps, changing designs and colors. You can make a pattern, or you can just make up the design as you go until you have made them as long as you like. Finish off the streamer by tying another very thick knot.

Hang them over your dessert table for a little more sweetness. String them over a baby’s highchair, making the first birthday cake even more colorful. Wherever you put them, or however you use them, you are sure to get a lot of compliments on your creativity!
