This recipe is easy to make with just a few ingredients that are often kept in the kitchen. It will be hard to resist making this every night after dinner when you crave a little sweetness. For less richness, substitute milk for the heavy cream.

Ingredients

  • Popped popcorn
  • 1 1/2 cups of sugar
  • 1/3 cup of water
  • 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of heavy cream

Directions

  1. Mix the water and sugar in a large heavy-bottomed saucepan. Cover and cook over low heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. Increase the heat and boil uncovered until the sugar turns a medium brown (approximately 5-7 minutes), stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon. Watch it carefully at the end, as it will go from caramel to burnt very quickly.
  3. Gradually add the cream. Simmer until the caramel dissolves and the sauce is smooth and thick (approximately 2 minutes).
  4. Pour caramel sauce over freshly-popped popcorn, stir gently to evenly coat and enjoy! If you prefer, add another 1/4 cup of heavy cream to the sauce and let it cool to room temperature before you pour it over the popcorn.
