We’ve all seen it—handprints or a name imprinted in a sidewalk or on a tree. Its location, shape, letters, or size stamp a memory of something that once was there. Here is another way to make a record of your little one’s hands or feet—and this one can travel with you wherever you live.

Things you will need:

  • 1 artists canvas (any size, available at craft stores)
  • 2 colors of paint (one for the canvas and one for the hand/foot print)
  • 2 sponge brushes
  • 1 fine paintbrush (to write with)
  • A little hand or foot and a big sink to rinse them off

Directions:

  1. Lay down paper for a work surface.
  2. Paint your canvas with one color (sides too). Let dry for 20 minutes. Apply second coat if needed, and let dry.
  3. Paint the bottom of your child’s hands/feet with the other color. Stamp them carefully onto the canvas to create your child’s imprint.  Make sure to record their name and date under their imprint or on the back of the canvas. Display proudly!!

Variations on the idea:

  • Choose a long canvas and put one handprint from each person in your family.
  • Or do a footprint pattern: one foot from each person in your family in a  vertical pattern and  write below it in paint: "Walking with Jesus" and your family’s name.
  • This also makes a great gift for grandparents, with all the grandchildren’s feet/hands and names.
