Because this will be an intimate dinner for two, the table may be small. So for this centerpiece, how about repurposing a piece of china, like this diminutive candy dish, atop a pedestal base?

Select the deepest red Gerber daisies and roses you can find. Keep this arrangement to just the one color for the greatest impact. Using two different types of flowers that are the same color can be far more interesting (and at times more affordable) than using all of one kind.

First, cut and secure some pre-soaked Oasis (floral foam) to snugly fit the size of your container. You will need to leave enough depth to the Oasis (approximately 3 inches) to provide adequate moisture and support to the heavy rose blossoms.

Next, trim the rose stems at a sharp angle, taking off the length in stages until you determine the perfect height for your arrangement. Don’t be in a hurry, as I have learned the hard way that you can always trim off more stem, but you can’t put it back once it’s been cut! Cluster odd numbers of roses in groupings, leaving spaces between them for the Gerber daisies.

Now, add in the Gerber daisies; use extra care to not bend or crease their more delicate stems. Fill in all of the spaces between roses with groupings of daisies.

Lastly, for some finishing touches and to fill in any small spaces where the Oasis may be peeking out, add some red hypericum berries. These will look especially pretty if you select some sprigs that can trail a bit down the sides and corners of the arrangement.

Voila, a beautiful creation sure to please your Valentine!
