Sarah joined the Harvest staff in February 1996, serving in many aspects of the Harvest Crusade. She currently serves as administrative assistant to Executive Pastor John Collins and works alongside musicians in the role of Artist Relations.

With the SoCal Harvest Crusade in just a few days and Harvest Georgia following soon after, I thought it would be fun to share a few reasons why I love my job. It’s fun, it’s stressful, it’s amazing—and my kids think I have the best job in the world. To say that I love the staff, the Harvest Crusade ministry, and that I believe in all that they stand for is an absolute truth.

Fun Fact #1: Pastor Greg dedicated me when I was two years old.

Fun Fact #2: I’ve attended every single SoCal Harvest Crusade (that’s 27!).

Fun Fact #3: Of all the musicians I’ve met over the years, my favorites are our very own Harvest worship leaders.

10 Reasons Why I Love My Job:

  1. During a Harvest Crusade, I never have to pump my arm at the end of the day to make my goal of 10,000 steps on my Fitbit. Oh, you’ve never done that? Then never mind. I walk an average of five miles on any given night and after this many years, you’d think I would remember that when choosing my shoes. #CuteBeatsComfort

  1. In my job, I get to meet really great musicians. This means I also get to run around the stadium to find misplaced in-ear monitors, eye liner, and kids. #ICanFindIt

  1. Sometimes I get to go to the airport to pick up tobyMac. Other times I get to go to the airport to pick up a piece of equipment that another band mistakenly took as they rushed out to catch their redeye. #NoSleep

  1. Occasionally, my kids get to meet an artist. At one crusade, when my daughter met David Crowder, he asked her, “Do you listen to your mom? ‘Cause I sure do!” Oh, and that time my ten-year-old son followed Lecrae into a “staff only” restroom and asked if they could take a picture? #Mortified

  1. If you see me walking a band onto the stage during the event, no need to wonder what I’m thinking. I’ll tell you it’s most likely one of two things: “Please Lord, don’t let me trip in front of 45,000 people” or “Does security know I’m allowed to be out here?” If either one goes bad, there’s a good chance I’ll end up face down in the dirt. #PleaseLordNo

  1. I got to be “in charge” of Pastor Chuck Smith and Dr. James Dobson exactly once. Why once? My guess is because I lost Pastor Chuck in a dark tunnel as he exited the platform, saw a “do not walk on the grass” sign and went through an empty dugout rather than where his team was waiting. With Dr. Dobson, I looked at the timing sheet wrong and mistakenly told him we were late (he was opening the crusade in prayer). I convinced him to run down three flights of stairs, through a tunnel, and up another flight of stairs, where we wogged (for those of you who don’t know, that’s a jog/walk). We reached the platform totally out of breath—only to discover he followed the next band, not this (I’m dying again just thinking about it!) #OopsMyBad

  1. One aspect of my job is getting bands into the venue and keeping sound check running on time. One time, as I walked Luke, of for King & Country, into the venue, he introduced himself to my husband, Matt. Luke said he heard that Matt had been battling cancer (we still have no idea how he knew) and that Luke was battling his own serious health issues. They spent the next hour sharing stories, encouraging one another, and praying. I’m not sure Luke ever made sound check that day, but they nailed it. #RealDeal

  1. Coffee. It’s the single most important part of my weekend besides the Word, my phone, and my patient husband who holds my coffee when I put it down and forget where I left it. We sleep when the crusade is over. #needCoffee

  1. Receiving grace. Giving grace. Being stopped in an elevator by Ricky Ryan who put his hand on my shoulders and prayed loudly, intensely, and boldly that I would experience more grace that day. If you’ve ever been prayed for by Ricky, you know. #IMayHaveHadMyEyesOpenForThatOne

  1. I am a very small part of a very large team. We worship. We laugh. We pray. We cover each other and we put in many, many hours together. And we are privileged to call this work. It seriously blows my mind. Our main purpose is—and always will be—that people will hear the gospel and their lives will be forever changed. #ItNeverGetsOld
